To educate the public and health care professionals about problem gambling and to raise awareness that hope and help are available, the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) has organized an annual National Problem Gambling Awareness Week to be held March 9-15, 2008.
There are several ways that your organization can participate in National Problem Gambling Awareness Week.
Supporters: Organizations that support the goals and objectives of NPGAW but are unable to provide direct financial contributions are asked to become Supporters. This category includes many government agencies, healthcare providers and other groups. Supporters commit to participating by publicizing (promoting the week among their members/in their jurisdiction) and/or participating (screening clients/patients/staff during the week) events during the week. Supporters will be listed on NPGAW materials and acknowledged in the NCPG national newsletter.
If your organization is planning to host any educational or public awareness activities during the week—You’re a Supporter!—Let us know your plans and have your organization recognized—its FREE and every event is a chance for a problem gambler, a their loved one, to learn of the hope and help available. Partners: Organizations with a more direct interest in gambling and problem gambling may become Partners. Partners meet all the criteria for Supporters plus provide direct support to NPGAW through a charitable contribution of $500 or equivalent in-kind support. Partners will be more prominently acknowledged on NPGAW materials. We anticipate a number of organizations, including State Affiliate Councils, will be willing to provide in-kind donations of staff and volunteer time, donated airtime for PSA’s, printing of press releases and screening packets, graphics and design for media kits, etc…that in total would meet criteria for Partnership.
Sponsors: Sponsors meet all the criteria for Partners, plus a minimum charitable donation of $5,000 or equivalent in-kind support. Sponsors will be recognized with plaques and will be featured at the NCPG annual national conference.
All contributions to NPGAW are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law and are made in care of: National Council on Problem Gambling (Federal Tax ID: 510141872) a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation.
Over the past few decades, we have been well-informed and well-educated about drug abuse, alcoholism, AIDS and many other disorders. With millions of problem gamblers undiagnosed and untreated, your participation in NPGAW, no matter how minor, may provide help and hope to someone in need. Thank you.
